LIFE-ORIENTED EDUCATION
Young entrepreneur program at Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School is all about creating an awareness amongst our students on entrepreneurship. Ideation and discussions are held on sustainable development goals. The program is conducted by TIE Chennai, the Indus Entrepreneurs - a nonprofit company devoted to entrepreneurs.
Our School, in collaboration with Agni College of Technology, and with the support of Garuda Aerospace Pvt. Ltd, introduced Drone technology for the students of our school. This initiative will enhance technical skills through quality training programmes, integrate training in drone technology for students which will help them venture into projects and research.
The students of Bala Vidya Mandir had come together to aid the elderly poor who needed a cataract surgery which could give them the gift of sight. 74 students of Classes 8 to 10 found 855 funders and collected a total of Rs.19.96 lakhs within a short span of 20 days. A great achievement!
The scope of this course expands from the concepts of Information Technology, digitalization, Wireless Networking and sensor technologies to the broad arena of IoT. It helps in strengthening the core concepts of Science and inculcates the need to focus on application-based learning.
Students participated in the Fuel a Dream: Campaign 2021’, a crowd funding initiative that helped raise 17.15 lakhs towards performing Paediatric Heart Surgeries for the under privileged children through Dr.Srimathi, Public Health Centre, Chennai.
Bala Vidya Mandir Sr.Sec School, in collaboration with Rhapsody launched a program “Project-Based Learning from Universities to Schools" in the year 2021-2022, for the students of classes 6 to 11.
Data Science introduced for students of class 8 in order to offer them an understanding of basic Data Science concepts at their preliminary stage of education. This is a mandatory course prescribed by CBSE.
Artificial Intelligence introduced for students of class 7 in order to offer them an understanding of basic AI concepts at their preliminary stage of education. This is a mandatory course prescribed by CBSE.
Financial Literacy introduced for students of class 6 in order to offer them an understanding of basic financial concepts at their preliminary stage of education. This is a mandatory course prescribed by CBSE.
Bala Vidya Mandir facilitates the Media Lab at the school premises for students - an initiative to provide an opportunity to explore and express themselves through digital media production. The course is conducted by Mr.BlaaZe.
Bala Vidya Mandir believes in training students to become better citizens and future leaders of our country. The Navy Wing Cadets are headed by caretaker Ms.V.Mythili.
Students raised 3 lakhs for supporting Sankara Eye Hospital in addressing “Avoidable Blindness”.
Aero Club was formed to support, ensure and build up the study and practice of Aero-modelling.Aero Club is conducted in association with Raven's Aeroclub, Students are exposed to the Level -I aeromodelling with hands-on experience.
The Crea-Shakthi theatre in education using a proprietary C.L.A.P pedagogy engages students in creating and performing stories on the stage to augment their communication, creativity, critical thinking and collaborative skills. The program also is tied up with the Trinity College London certification now recognized internationally.
The importance of mental well-being has always been highlighted at Bala Vidya Mandir. Yoga has been conducted in the school for more than 15 years. Students are taught the proper breathing techniques and posture to enable them develop concentrate longer and improve their retention capacity. Students are taught meditation which helps enhance their self-control and mindfulness. Students are encouraged to practise yoga on a regular basis thereby helping them improve their mental fitness and their self-confidence.
Students are given exciting and interesting activities like Market Research and experiential sessions on branding and marketing a product and how to sell them to different customers through the annual Young Entrepreneur Bazaar where students formed groups and sold their products in stalls to the different customers that visited the school for the Bazaar
Students collected 24 Lakhs to provide Prosthetic Legs to help people with leg amputations get around more easily.
Bala Vidya Mandir believes in training students to become better citizens and future leaders of our country. The Army Wing Cadets are headed by Associate NCC Officer C.Badri Narayanan.
The purpose of this movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional and social potential as individuals and as responsible citizens of local, national and international communities. BVM has 13 Scouts and 20 Guides who have been awarded in scouting and guiding movement.
Fitness class enables students to lead healthier lives by providing them with many different health benefits such as increased self-confidence and decreased stress levels. Bala Vidya Mandir started fitness classes for primary students from the year 2017. The classes give importance to aerobic exercises, strength training, and muscle building. All these activities are done using a number of fitness equipment and enjoyable techniques, thereby motivating each and every student to participate.
The importance of focus and concentration among students led Bala Vidya Mandir to introduce Chess classes as part of the curriculum for students. These classes were introduced in 2016 and students right from class 1 have shown a lot of interest. They are taught from the basics of chess to higher levels which enable them to participate in various tournaments. Chess has helped students think, focus, develop creativity and has been a confidence builder. It has also taught students to accept and learn from success and failures and understand the consequences of their actions.
The Inno Lab at Bala Vidya Mandir Sr.Sec School was started to bring a change in Science teaching and make learning Science a passion for students. Inno Lab is about learning by doing which is self-paced. Experiments are graded from very simple to complex concepts and are focused on strengthening the fundamental concepts which will enable the students to take part in research activities down the line which is the need of the hour.
Organized by IIBFT- Indo International Initiative for Billions Of Fruit Trees. This program was led by Dr. Alagu Perumal Ramasamy - Director II BFT. Sapling project was taken up by Bala Vidya Mandir for three years raised nearly 2000 samplings and donated them to IIBFT. Class 8 students were involved in the project.
Culinary Education allows students to learn the skills and knowledge that are required in the kitchen, which includes not only knowing how to cook but also how to create new dishes, how to keep the kitchen safe, how to run the kitchen efficiently and more. It is a life skill that is of immense help to all in the long run. Bala Vidya Mandir, in its endeavour to promote holistic development of students introduced this in the year 2016. Students are taught to cook basic and fancy dishes thereby inculcating a sense of interest and joy in cooking, sharing the dish with peers.
Global Rhythm was introduced in the year 2016. This was started in affiliation with AR Rehman's school of Music (KM Conservatory). Eminent artists (singers, musicians and dancers) were brought in to teach students and many shows were hosted which were attended by various personalities from the music industry. Students were taught to sing in a choir and also learn the importance of social skills.
