On 15th November 2024, to celebrate World Science Day, six students from Bala Vidya Mandir Sr Sec School attended a special event organized by the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Center. Regional level CBSE Science Expo 2024 - 25 was conducted at RMK residential school. 94 teams from various schools participated and exhibited their project under the theme - "Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future". From our school Avyukth H J and Shambhavi Sharma of Grade 7 participated in the expo and presented a working model on "Disaster proof Building with IoT enabled multi hazard detection system" under the sub theme "Disaster Management" which was mentored by Mr. Keerthiraj Arul Nambi and Mrs. Aparna S They cleared the "Regional level competition" and got selected for the "National level competition" which will be held in Delhi.
Bala Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School actively participated in the WWF-India’s Final National Wild Wisdom Global Challenge Quiz 2024. This annual quiz contest, themed "Reptiles: The Ultimate Scaly Survivalists," focused on educating students about reptiles' critical role in ecosystems and their impressive survival history. Open to students of classes 6 to 9, the challenge comprised four rounds: Thirty students advanced to the online School Challenge Round, out of the eighty students participated in the Class Room Challenge. Following this, two students, Giribargavi from class 8A and Aahaan Mishra from class 8C, qualified for the City Final Challenge held on 29th October 2024. These students progressed to the second level of the City Final, gaining valuable knowledge on reptiles. Participants greatly enjoyed the experience and learning opportunities provided by this unique event.

Three students, V. YASHWANTH 9A, REVATHI S VENKAT 9B and HASINI SAI YASHWANTH 9B from Bala Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School participated in the Young Environmental Scientist Program organized by the Industrial Waste Management Association (IWMA) at IIT Madras. The students presented a PowerPoint on the Development of a Smart Forest Monitoring System using AI and IoT for Early Detection of Deforestation. Their presentation focused on how AI and IoT technologies can be integrated to monitor forest health in real-time, detect early signs of deforestation, and generate alerts for timely action. The students received positive feedback from experts, who appreciated their innovative approach to using technology for environmental conservation. The session provided valuable learning experiences and motivated the students to further explore solutions for sustainable forest management.

Ms. Stella Giesen, Goethe Institute intern, visited our school on Friday, 27 September 2024, engaging Class 5 students in a captivating session. On Thursday, July 18th, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bala Vidya Mandir hosted a guest lecture on the revised criminal laws in India, presented by Advocate Madhupreeta Elango, a practicing lawyer at the Madras High Court. Advocate Madhupreeta explored the recent reforms, highlighting the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam Sanhita, which have replaced the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. The session was highly interactive, with Legal Studies students actively participating and seeking clarifications on various aspects of the new laws. Advocate Madhupreeta commended the students for their impressive legal knowledge and engagement throughout the discussion.
Ms Amrita from Ashoka University, Haryana gave an orientation for Classes 11 and 12 students on the various courses offered by the University, which is a Liberal Arts and Science College She briefed the students about various programmes offered, the fee structure, filling of application forms, etc. She is ready to give another orientation for students who are interested in taking up a course in Ashoka University and guide them regarding the application process which will be useful not only for Ashoka University but other universities as well. Scientific Research as a career choice, was the lecture given by the renowned Doctor Sushama Sivakumar. The session was an eye-opener and an enlightening experience for all of the students. The lecture was held in the Vidya Peet Auditorium on Tuesday, 9th July 2024. The way complex concepts were presented by Dr Sushama was fascinating and of thorough inspiration to the students.
Naveen Benny Raphael, a prestigious PMRF scholar at IIT Chennai, generously shared his expertise in Physics with Class 11 students as part of his Ph. D. deliverables from 8 July to 23 July 2024. Youth Health Mela - 2024 The Youth Health Mela 2024, organized by the Cancer Institute under the theme of "Empowering Youth for a Healthier Tomorrow," attracted participation from more than 25 schools and 1200 students. Our school students excelled, securing first, second, and third places across various competitions. Among the pre-event competitions, Vaishnavi Balakrishnan of Class 11A won third place in the essay writing contest on popular health drinks. Shriman Mukundan, also from Class 11A, secured third place in English poetry writing on the topic of alcohol as a social disease. Additionally, a student from Class 9B won first place in Tamil poetry writing, while two Class 11A students excelled in photography competitions, emphasizing social issues. From connecting logic gates to launching a rocket that I made from scratch using a plastic bottle, my internship in experimental physics can be described as an intriguing journey into the nucleus of scientific discovery. Curious and ambitious, I embarked on a trip aimed to unravel the world's mysteries one experiment at a time. The detailed experiments and numerous calculations always left me wanting to do more at the end of the day. It was indeed an adventure that opened my eyes to a new branch of science that left me at a loss for words and ignited my passion for science further. The Rotary Club of Madras Youth Service Team conducted a walkathon -'one walk, one Hope' on 22nd April at Loyalo College to spread awareness about cancer. Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, M.P of Chennai Central was the Chief Guest for the event. The Interact Club students of Bala Vidya Mandir also participated in the same with lot of enthusiasm. The Thirukkural which is called as “The Universal Scripture” is one of the most revered ancient works in the Tamil language. It is considered a 'common creed', providing a guide for human morals and betterment in life. Avantika Sri S.R. of class 7 has participated in the State Level Drawing Competition titled “Kuraloviyam” and her illustration of the Thriukkural with the explanation has been selected for the table-top calendar published by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Rotary club of Bangalore in association with Rotary club of Madras, Rotary club of Mangalore and Rotary club of Cochin conducted a spellbee competition for the students of classes 4 to 6 today. Each school can send a maximum of 9 students. We had chosen one from each section from 4 A to 6 C. Two of our students Vasisht Athreya karthik of 5A and Triveni S. Venkat of 5 C were selected for finals out of 230 participants and Triveni was the winner of spelling bee 2023.
“A poet is, before anything else, a person who is passionately in love with language.” Students of Bala Vidya Mandir have been given an opportunity to write their own poems to be published in the anthology named Efflorescence for the year 2022. Many students wrote poems and a few of them were selected for publication. The young poets were invited for the release of the magazine where they were given an opportunity to interact with many stalwarts in poetry and to read their poems. Thanks to the Chennai Poets’ Circle for encouraging such talent in young minds.

The class 10 and class 11 students from Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School visited Agni college of Technology for a one day experiential learning programme at the Garuda Aerospace. The students visited the manufacturing hall where more than 100 drones are produced for agricultural usage. The students were briefed about various types of drones by Mr. Balaji and Mr. Shravan (Drone Pilot). The students had the opportunity to see the military drone prototype Garuda and the cleaning equipment for Solar Panel at the Research and Development area. The students also visited the computer lab and participated in simulated training for Drones using transmitters. They also had the experience of flying a drone equipped with the unique "Automonous Mode" - Drone Autopilot feature. They finally visited the Robotics Lab established by Kwasaki Robotics, CoE-Bosch Lab and Renewal energy lab.
"Mystic Land" provided us with one of the most remarkable experiences in our teaching career. Students of class 3 were extremely excited about the topics and have been motivated to explore further into the areas related to enhancing their General Knowledge. One of our objectives is to make our students learn, understand and make them think out of the box to strengthen their General knowledge. The community project done by them has helped them to sensitise the environment. Mystic Land has given the students a new perspective of things around them and the world as a whole.
“ROBOZEST 2022” is a brand event of KITE ROBOTICS conducted every year on account of commemorating the memory of our Former President, Scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam followed by his birth anniversary. This year it was held at Sairam Engineering College in which around 650 students participated from all over Tamil Nadu. The students of Bala Vidya Mandir participated in various categories and secured 1st position in Panel Game – Space Quiz and 2nd position in Water Rocketry. A science workshop on Experiential learning was conducted at Bala Vidya Mandir school on 15th November 2022. This was organized by Chennai Sahodaya Schools complex, Chennai, in collaboration with Ratna Sagar Publishers. Around 135 teachers from Chennai CBSE schools participated enthusiastically. The workshop facilitator was Dr. Srinivasa Raghavan, Principal, Bala Vidya Mandir. In the workshop, the teachers were taught how to enhance their teaching approach by including experiments/activities while teaching the concepts.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science conducted an exhibition on Rocket Technology in collaboration with ISRO. The students of classes 9, 10 and 11 participated in the program on 8th October 2022. As part of the program competitions were held on poster making and extempore speech. The students participated in it enthusiastically and Vaishnavi of class 10 won a prize in the extempore speech on the topic “Space Suits.”

Ananya Balaji, sutdent of Class X scored 500/500 in the CBSE Class 10 Board Examinations 2022. She got an opportunity to participate in a show named ‘Mangaiyar Solai’ (மங்கையர் சோலை) on DD Podhigai. This show provides a platform for various female achievers to showcase their achievements. The episode was telecast in two segments on the 20th and the 27th of August 2022.
